Court success for college students
By LAW students at a Great Sankey college proved to be the best bar none in a mock trial contest. Youngsters from Barrow Hall College, fresh from making the final of the National Bar Mock Trial Competition heat at Liverpool Crown Court in December, faced Priestley College students in the magistrates competition at the combined courts on Legh Street in the town centre. The law students had to present the prosecution and defence of a ‘possession of a bladed instrument’ case, with Barrow Hall College winning both rounds to take victory in the overall competition. The team wowed the magistrates with their preparation and performance on the day so much so they were unable to choose between Hannah Ellison and Tom Baines, who presented the prosecution case, for the best student performance award. Law teacher Rhianne Bond says she is 'exceptionally proud' of her students.
