Drug dealer attacked bouncer and threatened to stab police officers
By A DRUG dealer who attacked a bouncer during a drunken night out in the town centre has been spared a jail sentence. Jacob Brown punched and spat at a doorman outside FC2 nightclub before threatening to stab police officers while he was subject to a suspended sentence for dealing class A drugs. But last week, a judge opted not to activate the 20-year-old’s suspended sentence and spared him from serving time in prison. On Wednesday, April 4, Liverpool Crown Court heard that Brown had been ejected from the Barbauld Street nightclub at around 2.45am on Sunday, February 18, after being seen by door staff drunkenly ‘stumbling around’. Brown, of Denver Drive, Chapelford, then tried to re-enter the premises after meeting friends outside. He became aggressive and squared up to bouncers. After punching a doorman to his left eye, Brown attempted to run away from the scene but tripped over a barrier. Brown was apprehended by bouncers, and spat at the doorman he had punched while being restrained. When Cheshire Police attended the scene, Brown asked officers if they had had sexual relations with his mum - who was present in court - before adding: “If you do that I’ll stab you.” During an earlier court hearing at Warrington Magistrates Court last month, he admitted one count of assault in connection with the incident. Brown's actions also put him in breach of a suspended 16-month prison sentence handed down at Manchester Crown Court last year for possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. He had previously breached this sentence after being convicted of drunken and disorderly behaviour at Warrington Magistrates Court in November. But recorder Eric Lamb opted not to activate the suspended sentence and instead extended it for a period of three months. Brown, who is currently training to work in telesales, was also handed an additional 14-week prison sentence suspended for one year. Sentencing, recorder Lamb said: "You were involved in a sustained assault, and this assault was against somebody who was carrying out their duty to maintain order in the area around the club. "However it is heartening to hear the powerful points made on your behalf, in particular the efforts you are making to overcome your previous reliance on alcohol. "This offending is so serious that only a custodial sentence is justified - that will be suspended for a period of 12 months. "If you should commit any further offence with the next 12 months you may be ordered to serve part or all of this sentence." Recorder Lamb also subjected Brown to a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge.
